How to use FTP to upload files to WordPress

What is FTP?

File Transfer Protocol is used by computers to transfer files to and from one another. It enables you to upload your website’s files from your computer to a hosted web server so that your site can be viewed on the internet. FTP can basically be used as a means of transport to transfer files from your computer to your website. You can use FTP also to upload or delete large files from your site, change file and directory permissions, and modify WordPress themes, and much more.

How to use FTP to upload files to WordPress?

The best way by which you can make use of FTP is through an FTP client. FTP Client is a software application that offers a simplified way to login to a server, navigate between folders and move files to and from a server. FTP client also allows you to upload multiple files at once. An FTP server needs to be first installed on your computer and only then you can use it with a live connection to the internet.

Among FTP clients, FileZilla is one of the best and most recommended ones. So in this tutorial, we are going to use FTP Client, FileZilla. FileZilla is a fast and reliable cross-platform FTP, FTPS and SFTP client with easy to use, multi-language interface and tons of other features. Now let’s see how we can use FTP to upload files to WordPress via FileZilla.

You first have to download FileZilla, and you can do it from here. Once you have downloaded FileZilla, you will need to connect it to your site via FTP credentials. You will get an email from your hosting company about your FTP information.

Right now, I am not connected to any server. But once you have you will see all your files on your middle left corner and all your WordPress Site’s files can be found in the middle right corner. All you need to do is drag your folders that you will need to upload from your left side to your right side.
